There's another poll.

Somewhere around here is a '42, a '41, a '55, and some things with rocks that go spark and let fire frizzenate somewhere along the line. ;)

        Charles,
Don't get ahead of yourself. The real question is, what canteen would you provide yourself with?

I have a reproduction '42 Springfield and an original English side by side percussion 12 Gage. My favorite is my 1855 Springfield Rifle Musket with the tape primer. I just like watching the little parts move.

I have an original double-barrel percussion shotgun. However, it's strictly for display due to the damascus barrels and pins holding the stock together. Also, a repro 1861 Cook & Bro. carbine.

Charles, cabbage soup sounds excellent compared to the tripe soup we were served during the POW camp portion of my USAF survival training. BTW, lessons learned during that training are also excellent for campaign-style camping & foraging. :tounge_sm

I just recently bought a 50 cal. "Shennendoah" flintlock from traditions firearms. It's pretty cool, I also defarbed it and stripped the unperiod markings off, the blueing on the barrel (left it plain to patina), and am gettin ready to take the poly-urthane finish off of the stalk and such. Just alittle info ha ha

I have a reproduction M1795 Springfield, two original M1822 muskets (one Belgian conversion and one H&P bolster breech rifled conversion), an original M1842 musket (at one time having been turned into a floor lamp, now "de'wired" and returned to its natural state), a repro M1842 rifled musket, a repro M1855 rifle musket with functional Maynard system, and four percussion double shotguns. One was loaded when I found it, about 90 grains of powder and about 8 inches of wadded newspaper- funny pages, in Spanish, from the 1930s.

Hey, Bob Clanton, don't forget you have a M1841 rifle, too!

Thanks for reminding me Kip! I also forgot the civilian common Rifle I put together from parts. Not to mention the various flint and percussion pistols or the numerous revolvers that seem to multiply every time I open my gun safe. If you can't remember how many firearms you own does that mean you have too many? Maybe not, I still need a good cone in barrel conversion.

                          Re: Pre-War/Early-War Firearms Poll

I have the old standby Armi Sport 42, defarbed with proper brass front sight. I have a Whitney 1855 Type I US model 1841, courtesy of some very fine smithing by Todd Watts. I also have an Enfield by Euroarms that I am going to create a reproduction of the Kendal, Robbins and Lawrence contract Enfield Type IIs from 1856-1858, these would be early war as the 17,000 or so left from those not taken by the English were sold to northern and southern states on the eve of the war.

Kip, how is the 1795? I have been mulling over buying one for myself but I do not know anyone who has one of the Pedersoli Repros.

I must say...a 42' Springfield is a mighty nice looking firearm. My good friend just used it this past weekend at an event...nice weapon!
