  • NY set to vote on New Gun Laws

    Hello Everyone,

Last night I received an e-mail from the NRA about New York State attempting to pass another round of stricter gun laws. In the batch of proposed laws is another attempt by Patricia Eddington ( D) from Patchogue, Long Island to ban weapons .50 cal and over. According to an e-mail received from another person in the hobby, it does include some of the weapons used in our hobby as well as things like sporting weapons. If you are from NY please contact your local politicians regading the bills as son as possible. Below is the bill number and a link to the bill as well as a links to the State lawmakers.

Assembly Bill 3211A, sponsored by State Assemblywoman Patricia Eddington (D-3), would prohibit the sale use or possession of .50-caliber firearms.

It is critical that you contact your lawmakers TODAY and respectfully urge them to OPPOSE these measures! State Assembly Members can be reached by phone at (518) 455-4100. To find your Assembly Member, please click here http://assembly.state.ny.us/mem/. Your State Senator can be contacted through the Senate switchboard at (518) 455-2800. To find your State Senator, please click here http://www.senate.state.ny.us/senate...ators?OpenForm.

    Rob,

While I disagree wholeheartedly with legislation I believe the hobby will not be affected due to the discription given for the banned 50 cal. firearms.

Description - by finds and declares that 50-caliber or larger weapons having the capacity for rapidly discharging ammunition have no acceptable purpose. http://www.assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A03211&sh=t

Now that doesn't mean that some ill informed legislators will not consider being able to load and fire a muzzleloader three times per minute as rapidly discharging. This bill does warrant watching as once again we have a solution looking for a problem.

It would appear that this legislation has yet to make it out of committee so there is time to help defeat it.

      Hi..
Honestly, I am not surprised. Especially, in light of what happened at the civic center.

        Jill,

You may want to review the news reports, there were no .50 cal firearms used at the civic center. Besides, this bill was first introduced in January, civil center murders were in April so it has nothing to do with that event.
