  • Wanna Be on the August Cover of the AC?

    Greetings Everyone:

Well, it is the 20th of the month. So, the question is, "Wanna Be on the August Cover of the Authentic Campaigner?"

We are looking for images that best-exemplify the look of the authentic living historian. Images taken with period technology only are required (wet plate, pencil drawing, field sketches, etc.) Please refrain from submitting an image that you have submitted within the last year. We are continuously looking for fresh images and have a few days to gather the candidates. Thanks! Also, please, no "dead" images this month. Honestly, I don't mind them, but we have had two in the last several months and that is enough for a while. ;)

    Submission Guidelines:

    1) We will accept the first ten image submissions only. The thread will be closed after the tenth image is submitted, and any images submitted after the tenth will be deleted from the thread.

    2) Once we have ten images, the staff will select the final three. The final three will then be put up for a general vote to the membership of the forum. The winning image will be placed on the front "cover" of the web site for one month.

    3) Make sure and attach the photo to your post. If necessary, we will crop the photo for the best fit.

    4) The Moderators/Administrators reserve the right to remove any submittals that they feel don't meet the standards of the Authentic Campaigner.

Now, let's see your best images!

Paul Boccadoro and Kyle Stetz in a photograph inspired by the attached original. Glass ambrotype taken by Del Hilbert in July 2009.

This photograph was about 7 months in the making, and the target was copied from the photo and then actually shot at a live firing session we had at our winter drill (photo also attached).

            For your consideration...

The attached image was struck by Wendel Decker at Resaca this year of the members of the Tramp Brigade Organization of Historical Interpreters that supported the Authentic Battalion organized by the WIG.

Well, I was going to post an image but totally forgot about Paul posting this one. Paul, Cody, and Kyle worked very hard to produce this image with attention to correct details regarding the original image, constructing the target (even getting copies of the Harper's Weekly for cover-up paper on any bulls-eye hits), installing the target (with period shovel & spade, of course), and dare I say, friendly negotiation with our resident neighbors in Nathalie, Va. for live firing???

They have worked really hard on this project and deserve to win this month's cover, without hesitation. I can see no reason why they should not. Best of luck, Paul.

                            Bill,

Do you have a larger version of that? It looks like a good pic, but I can't really see any details.

                            Thanks!
