Okay. This officially stinks! There are finally not one, but two images of mounted folks to vote for, but then you have to go and throw in that absolutely top notch civilian picture! Not fair.....:cry_smile

Image number three is of Brandi Jones and Anna Allen. It was taken by Robert Szabo in September 2009. Being an advid reader I always love the images with women and thier books or letters. I also enjoy the images that are unique and show intimacy between the individuals in the image. With that in mind image number three was created. If you can't see the image that it is because it comes from flickr and your internet filter might need to be changed.

Image 1 was the result of a lot of research into the uniforms and equipment and I think Mr. Decker did a fantastic job in capturing the portrayal. Also to note, the image was struck on the original battlefield of the Battle of Jonesville in Jonesville, VA. Several (if not all...maybe the other guys will chime in) of the folks in the image had ancestors who served here during the surrender that took place at the tallest tree you can see in the background at the top of the hill.

#1 for me. Well researched and the boys look the part, which is often so hard with the extra weight most of us carry in this century. Well done!. Beautiful scenery as well.

I really like #1 since we don't see too many good cav photos and that one's really good. But I went with #3. I think a cover with the fairer sex in a nice period pose would be nice for a change.

                      Tough choices this month.

Re: Vote For the October Cover

Well #1 one looks to me like some Infantry reenactors asked some cavalry reenactors if they could hold their horses for them to have a picture made.

#2 I think would look better without the fellows in the picture, the rural setting is way better in my opinion.

#3 looks too clean if that makes any sense. The woman on the left with the book looks of the era but the one on the right has more of a "modern girl trying to look old timey" look to me.

I will vote for #3 because I feel that women are not as well represented on the C/P/H side of the hobby.

Image Number one is based on, Jack May's Confederate Kentucky / Virginia Mounted Rifle Battalion during April of 1863 in the Department of Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia. This image was struck at a location that the unit actually set foot.At this time the unit was equipped with Federal Issue Fatigue Blouses and if you look in the picture that is what all of us are wearing. Its not very often that you see a correct mounted infantry portrayal either.

Would Mounted Infantry wear all their equipment or make room for it on the horse? I don't know as that is not my area of study but it would make sense if one had a horse to make the horse carry the extra equipment.

What happens when you go it to battle (they fought dimounted) and you are captured. If you leave all of your gear on the horse you do not have it. If it is on your back you will. I figure they would have wore it but I guess it was up to the man in the saddle.
