      US Marine enlisted. Trying to have knowledge to cover between 1845 to 1865, foreign (China, Japan) and domestic (Arthur Burns, John Brown) and engagements (Indian battles, Mexican War, Civil War, Japan). Trying to get enough gear to be able to do junk on the bunk. Will eventually branch to do CSMC.

        I prefer the 1864-1865 spectrum. It was the time that showed that Lee's army could still take a beating and deal it right back. It also showed what veteran Federal armies could do under the leadership of competent and intentional commanders.

        I have grown to like many of the more mundane aspects of the Civil War, and would love to put together a rear echelon impression or Veterans Reserve Corps. Sometimes counting crackers is more fun than marching...

            All impressions but my favorite starts with the Kansas-Missouri frontier, Trans-Mississippi confederate dismounted cavalrymen also, all 61' federal men at First Bull Run, 55th NY Zouave, 146th Zouave and regiments from Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa.
