You know, for awhile I got caught up in the authenticity "arms race", having to acquire every tpe of shell jacket, material, accoutrement, etc. made out there...After reading "Letters to Amanda", which is a compilation of the War-time letters written by Private Marion Hill-Fitzpatrick (who served in a Georgia Infantry regiment) to his wife (1861-1864), I've pared down my impression considerably...Hill-Fitzpatrick continually writes about receiving ALL his uniforming needs from his wife's own hand - trowsers, shirts, socks, underwear, FROCK coats, up until the Petersburg front in '64, and he only draws clothing from the QM at that time because he wants his wife to save the cloth for their kid's clothing. That being said, my impression is of an infantryman who has been receiving his uniform needs from home or private donation....

            Hi,

I love doing that sort of impression, and it really fits the theater that I portray most of the time (Trans-Mississippi). I find it alot more interesting than the standard depot clothing.

My current impression is mid '62 fed regular infantry on campaign. Although I'm a fan of a good western fed impression as well.

                        • Army of the Potomac. I am in the beginning of creating a Telegrapher impression. It would be a civilian (I think) employee. I am not sure which Union Army to represent, but I think I will lean toward the Army of the Potomac. This is just the beginning for me and I will have to do some more research before I decide for sure. Also have 90% of a VRC impression.
