Re: Vote For the November Cover

it was a tough decision and it came down to not being a decision at all, I really loved both 1 and 2 equally as much and it came down to where I just needed to pick one and I picked 1. Both are stellar images.

Number 3 is an AWESOME image, and I think one time Eric, we should do a special cover vote that is for nothing but civilian photos, think it would be neat.

Going to have to stick with Mark.
I enjoy this image for a number of reasons.
To begin with it looks like a studio image which is VERY hard for people to pull off, military or civilian. Secondly the image is crystal clear and reflects technically a great studio plate. The glassware is original and it is being operated by a real, modern chemist who has heavily researched period chemistry. The woven wool table cloth and chair are great pieces of material culture which match the image. Enjoying the trimmed paletot, cravat and especially the hair which does not look like it was cropped with contemporary tools and is equally oiled and combed in a period method. Marks pose to me is reminiscent of those I see in, "Dressed for the Photographer," and such books. Tis No.3 for me.

Gotta vote for Image #3! Mark and his material culture in this image are simply stunning. Authentic Civilians represent! : )

Re: Vote For the November Cover

Liked number one. Some of them fellars though remind me of me; a bit too "weighty" to be believable. Then again, the two gentlemen sitting on the right seem "spot on".
My only issue with number three is I wished his hair were a bit longer and over the ears. Too nit-picky? Perhaps. That's just me. Enjoyed number two the most. Really caught my eye when I first looked at it. I will say this though, the way they are equipped seems more of a "studio shot" opportunity than an "in the field" image. That being said, they are ALL better than what I submitted; which was nothing.

          Cheers!

(sigh) they say the ambrotype always adds 10 pounds...

I will freely admit to needing to lose a pesky 10 pounds or so, though I would like to plaintively point out that part of the appearance of girth is my overstuffed coat pocket, which appears as a bulky tumor just above my belt on the left side.

                [end excuse]

I have voted for one of the others in order that fewer innocents might have to gaze upon my rotundity.

Hey Eric...I think that there might be something in the code on the poll that causes it to sometimes jump over to this thread for some reason. It looks like a couple people have had issues as they have posted there too.

It did the same thing to me..If it has been addressed feel free to delete this.

Holler, I feel for you. Don't worry about the 10th Iowa. Just get your back healed up. You will hear nothing from me. You told us about this a while back. I saw this thread and a post on Facebook and figured you were having a bad run of things. Hang in there man.

Pete, I don't know why it is re-directing to a different thread. Looks like a software glitch that I cannot fix.
