  • Passing of Bill Gavin

Sad news to report. I 've received information that Bill Gavin passed away on Monday, the 7th. Bill, in 1963 authored the book, " Accoutrement Plates North and South 1861 - 1865 ". He was also one of the earlier folks to join the Company of Military Historians. This is all the info forwarded to me. Dennis W. Duerbeck

    Re: Passing of Bill Gavin

Bill was a pioneer in relic hunting as well as a gracious host at his motel complex near Harper's Ferry. We ate with him, in the past, when we attended the N-SSA Nationals.
He also owned a remarkable piece of historic real estate on the Heights. When the tennis courts were laid down some time ago the workers constantly had to stop work to remove live Civil War ordnance, Reads and Parrot shells.
    Thank for your work Bill.
