It is very difficult to vote on any one of the the three chosen, they are all of the same caliber.

Had to vote for #1. A great-looking group for starters, with a perfectly-blurred civilian and some great brickwork.

These are three fantastic pictures. I'll have to wait 'til I hear the descriptions before I can vote.

Ill cast my lot with image one. Mostly clean shaven uniformed Marines. Great landscape with random civilian. Todd did a great job of framing the shot. Defiantly the closest to a period image, pays alot of homage to the extant images of parades or companies in similar urban settings and or formations. Great job.

Image one. United States Marines!!!!! Although we teach history the best we can, Marines dont teach it, they make it! Who can argue with that? A well documented impression with the arsenal behind!
All the final three have unique impressions, but after last months 'issues' with the minstrel, I aint gonna cast my vote for it when it will be cast aside later down the road.

Image number 2 can be summed up with the title "3 Abolitionists and a Freeman." Pictured are members of the Tater Mess. Dave Gant, Brian McCarty, T.J. Bruegger and Sean Monton. The image was struck by Bob Szabo. It is not based off any period image. It is simply 3 Immigrant Aid Society members posing with a freed slave. The artillery sword and Bible in hand are reminiscent of John Brown. I think it would have made a perfect February cover.

Take 50 photos of nameless federal soldiers and mix them up with #3. If you did not know it was a reenactor, would you be able to tell the difference? If capturing the time is the goal, that is one of the best ever images this website has brought forth.

I've gotta go with #3, for the reasons Doug mentioned above. I love #1. It's got a bit more of the wow factor. I also really like #2. I'm not sure about that wild smile, though I do like it. I've just seldom seen smiles like that in originals. Great impressions though. I don't think there's anything near "politically incorrect" about it, as someone mentioned earlier. I almost voted for each of the 3 in succession, but like Doug said, it would be hard to pick #3 as a repro out of a bunch or originals. Very simple, but effective.

I would have to agree and give my vote to #3. It looks like it was taken right out of a collection of original images. I had to give it a double take at first.

Re: Vote for the April Cover of the AC

Image #3 is based upon dozens and dozens of original images of Illinois soldiers, which is what that impression is meant to recreate. The pose, the very minimal aspects of the image, such as wearing only my leathers with bayonet fixed; it's all a copy of dozens of original Illinois images. Further, if you notice, my rifle and leathers are on the right side, but in order to do this I had to wear my leathers on the left side and hold my rifle with my left had. This way, it comes out on the right side in the finished image. This, too, is copied from dozens and dozens of original Illinois soldier images. I am attaching three original images of Illinois soldiers to show how I copied them for my image. Thank you for your consideration and vote.
