All of the submissions this month are tough. I like Image 2, It includes some Federal guards and the confederate prisoners do not look too ragged, or too posed. Great Job fellas. All are well done!

I really liked #2 but had to vote for #3. If you could have done a close up of some of those original images of mass numbers of Confederate prisoners at the close of the rebellion, I think this is what it would have looked like. Great Job!

Excellent photos all. A really, really tough pick. I'll not disclose my choice at this time. I just would like to say that all 3 deserve to win, and look truly authentic. Kudos to all entries.

Wow.. I didn't think we'd have two competing Johnny photos this month. Tough decisions abound, but I am biased for Number 2.

The thought behind the Armory Guards prisoners picture is a group shot of Confederates just after they had been captured in an opening battle of the Atlanta Campaign. Captured of course, a little dejected, but still slighty resilient. This was taken at the recent Resaca event. At the last moment I spied Jim and Sean and asked them to be our "guards" for the picture. I really wanted to have them added to the shot. Bob Szabo, as always did an excellent job, in capturing the image.

Image number one, hand down the best in a while.

I seldom if ever comment on the cover images, but what isn't there to take away from Number One? I see the quintessential Mexican War veteran. Captured in the twilight of a long, bumpy military service, the viewer gets a fleeting glimpse of the aged line officer; tired, haggard, and worn out from a half a lifetime on the march. Screaming at subordinates, complaining about his commanders, intestinal parasites, bad liquor, lice and cold winters sprawled out on the damp earth have all taken their toll. Too old to chase an enemy and too slow to run from a future one wanting to take a scalp...you can almost smell the sulpher, wood smoke and stale urine...and Pat looks as honorable and put-together as ever.

Joe, Pat and Tim, this is the best image in a long long time. Thank you.

I've seen real POWs, and number 3 looks like real POWs.

Loved the forlorn look of the guys in number 3. I think it truly captures the essence of disparaged soldiers.

I chose number 3. The first time I seen this a couple months ago I was very imprested. This truly looks like an original and must have taken a lot of time and thought. Great job to all three finalists.

I have to cast my vote for number three. Number two looked cool, and the addition of guards really set the mood of prisoners. But in number three, they all have the look of undernorished, ill fed, ragged and dirty foot soldiers. I was at the mainstream Bentonville event, (couldnt make it Backwaters, what a 'bummer' LOL.....) and as tense as it was where I was at on Sunday, if I had seen this ragtag crew there charging me, I woulda S*** my drawers, thats for sure. Just eye screwing this image sends the fear that these fellows look like thier gonna raid my haversack. I mean SPOT ON!
Hopefully didnt offend noone with some of my similies.....

Damn, all three images are of friends or messmates, some new, some from way back. All 3 are strong as elevator rope, and 2 of the images are of captured johnnies. I voted, but it's a secret.
all 3 are very well done.

My votes for number three, and not because their my pards or any of that stuff that some cats take part in here. It's a GREAT late war image of RAGGED ASS Confederates. Best POW image I've seen, besides originals of course!

Number two brings to mind the accounts from the Dalton-Atlanta campaigns that the Troops in the Army Of Tennessee were better dress and equipped than the Federal armies apposing them. There are accounts of such from almost every battle fought in North Georgia in spring and summer of 64'. This image was taken at just such a time in modern time frame as the actual engagement at Resaca occurred.
Number 3 however brings the mind to a abrupt halt when you look in the eyes of the men in the picture and see the pain and anguish they endured. As it was taken just minutes after they all came out of the woods from Backwaters in March. I watched it being struck, a very realistic feel came over me, to see it happen. This image is more from a 65' stand point, as was the Backwaters event.

No. 3 ... It has fooled quite a number of people who first thought it was an original.
