    Well, as Herb said, I have to throw in a biased vote for Number 2. All three are excellent images and I personally like the POW shots as the originals represent our "snapshot" knowledge of what the CS soldier looked like in the field (along with post-mortem images). I like both of these POW shots as they are meant to depict two different "snapshots" of time. Bully job to all.

      I woulda S*** my drawers, thats for sure. Just eye screwing this image sends the fear that these fellows look like thier gonna raid my haversack,.

        My vote is for number 1 because I think Craddock and Smotherman composed a fine image of two comrades in arms, an image taken as a keepsake for when the cruel war is over.

          This poll is not a popularity contest based on who did what, it is strictly about the photo.

            Like it or not the Moderator hat is going ON...

            THIS AREA IS NOT TO BE A PUBLIC DEBATE AREA ON WHO DID WHAT AT WHAT EVENT! IF YOU WANT TO VOTE, VOTE. IF YOU DO NOT, DO NOT. The cover image is about the composition of photographs that should make every effort to appear like a historic image. The forum is not a fence rail for people to sit on and contest and counter-argue events. TAKE IT ELSEWHERE!

            I believe Jim has made that clear above, but just in case there is confusion I have repeated it again.

              All three images look pretty bad a**, but #3 sure gives me the "Willies"!

                Folks,

                Enough! Not one more complaints about this poll nor PMs about it, we have had more than enough today. Any more and the poll will be closed until Paul can address this issue.

                Due to all the uproar over this month's poll today the use of reenactor photos on the opening page is in jeopardy of being terminated. Vote however way you feel but do not complain any more about what happened at the Backwaters event or who did what at the event, that is not what the photo poll is about.

                It is a nice weekend over most of the US, vote for the photo of your choice then go find something to do outside away from the computer. There is much more to life than whose photo ends up on the AC.

                  I voted for No. 2. Very authentic appearance and well produced image. And that fella sitting down in the middle looks almost exactly like a man I saw carrying Two knapsacks at the finish of Backwaters......because a comrade had blown out his knee.

                    But seriously speaking of Backwater, I have a spring fed lake, and in the very back of it, my oldest calls the "back water", there is two Brown Cranes back there. I guess they made it up from the coast. We have put the area off limits....I forgot I voted for one or was it three?

                    I agree with the MODERATORS, stick to the subject of voting and not who dropped out at Backwater, Heck, I'm still laughing about Port Gibson 03.

                        Guys, I was sooo impressed with all three photos and couldn't decide on any one photo. So, literally it was a toss of the coin. Congrats #3. You won the toss.

                            While I like the inclusion of guards in #2, I've perused the gallery on the Liberty Rifles webpage many a time, and photo #3 has always been on of my favorites. Its got my vote.

                              It is a popularity contest and you are correct is not about "who did what". But, when a group publicly states they are the "Elite of the Elite" they should be able to back that bold claim up. But, you are right Jim, this can come down to the "best posers" popularity contest. Non-reenactors won;t care or know the difference anyways. I would actually vote for a Polaroid of some of the fellas in size 44 coats who finished that march.
                              I think Craddock and Smothermans photo capture that late-war, Western Fed, line officer look that you see in only a few images. Even their gear is wonr like some images I have seen. And for what its worth...these two gentlemen are not 'posers'.

                                This popularity contest is closed.

                                I didn't vote. I didn't count votes. I don't really care who makes it on the cover. I'm just tired of the alerts and the teeth knashing over a photo contest.

                                Maybe some moderator will take pity on the people who waited to the last second and will reopen this beauty contest. I sure hope not.
