  • July 2010 Cover Image Submission

    As it's been said before:

We are looking for images that best-exemplify the look of the authentic living historian. Images taken with period technology only are required (wet plate, pencil drawing, field sketches, etc.) Again this month, please, no "images of the dead". We have had two "dead" covers recently and that is plenty for a while.

    Submission Guidelines:

    1) We will accept the first ten image submissions only. The thread will be closed after the tenth image is submitted, and any images submitted after the tenth will be deleted from the thread.

    2) Once we have ten images, the staff will select the final three. The final three will then be put up for a general vote to the membership of the forum. The winning image will be placed on the front "cover" of the web site for one month.

    3) Make sure and attach the photo to your post. If necessary, we will crop the photo for the best fit.

    4) The Moderators/Administrators reserve the right to remove any submittals that they feel don't meet the standards of the Authentic Campaigner.

Now, let's see your best images!

I'll try her again. David and Brandon Jolly. 135th Anniversary of Gettysburg, July 3rd 1998. Ambrotype by R.R. Morgenweck The image is just 'slightly' blurry. If selected, I will get a more crisp image. Thanks!

                Ladies and Gentlemen,
I will attempt to submit a photo of a Wendell Decker image struck at Resaca, 2010 on a campaigner adjunct. It is of your humble servant and his faithful mount, Rocky. This was Rocky's first reenactment of any kind. He was absolutely amazing! He was unfazed by cannon and musketry, which led me to nick-name him "The Rock of Resaca"

                Thank you for your consideration!

This image was taken at Fort Fisher by local photographer Harry Taylor. This is my attempt to recreate the look of a Timothy O'Sullivan image taken after the fall of the fort. This image was taken on the recreated Shepherds Battery next to our 32 lb. rifled and banded gun.

I'll thrown one in of my Father (Gus Gallagher) and myself. This was taken at the At Hide Tide event by Todd Harrington. It was inspired by an image of NCO's from Minnesota in a similar pose at Nashville in '64.

What a great variety of images this month, from nearly every wet plate artist out there. The best selection that I have seen in a while-I am glad that I dont have to be the one to narrow it down to 3.
