  • Re: Open Discussion about Moderating / Membership Disagreements

I dunno. It seems to me that this forum is over-moderated to the point of stifling the users. It has been my experience that unless a thread descends into felonious talk, it is best left alone. I mean, aren't we all big boys and girls here? If someone wants to voice a dissenting (and unpopular) opinion, then why should it be removed? Is the state of this hobby and forum such that the converstation can only follow route Tango Six, and not Tango Eight?

Cave dog. Sign your posts. One of the rules here. The Mods are not allowed to moderate this thread but if maybe more mebers helped take care of the little stuff without being scolded maybe the Mods would be happier campers..:)

My mistake, and thanks for pointing it out. Time for me to set up a sig file.

When I got in the hobby, I heard a phases and saw it posted a good many times, "Maybe you're going to the wrong events." Considering the length of this thread, maybe we're going to the wrong forums.

When I first started lurking, long before I ever joined a unit, the AC was a mecca of research, articles, useful tidbits, et cetera. Now, it has become a cesspool of "wannabe" hardcools. Nothing will ever make us authentic. We are all a bunch of FARBS and the sooner people start realizing that fact we can get back to the research and quality event planning rather than wasting our time with meaningless self-importance seeking posting. Too much of this forum has diverted into people trying to show that they are hardcore and ripping on those who are not.

When I was in high school, we learned about internet bullies. You see, chat rooms had just emerged and my peers were chatting all the time, but a funny thing happens to a person when the sit in front of a glowing screen and a bang out things on a keyboard. The AC has seen the result. Internet communications allow nice people to turn into d-bags and hide behind their screen. They can be self-inflated, egotistical a-holes "without" recourse. For this reason (and others) we have mods. The success of mods in limiting internet bullies, d-bags, and a-holes is predicated on the presupposition that the mods do not engage in such acts themselves.

As to mods? My only issue with the moderating has been stated by others but I will restate. Just differentiate from when you are posting as a member and when you are posting as a mod. Additionally, when posting as a member, you are subject to the same scrutiny (if not a higher level) as the general members. To me, one that enforces the rules should conduct themselves in a manner above reproach.

-my two cents, now off to greener pastures. "At least in OZ you know you're supposed to be dealing with munchkins and flying monkeys" - (an active reenactor who will remain anonymous).

Paul and I would like to thank the posters on this thread for speaking their minds. Most posts have been constructive and helpful and have given birth to multiple phone calls between Paul and I. At this point in time we are going to close this thread, without prejudice, so that we do not devolve into deceased equine abuse.
