Re: Different Time Periods for the AC?

I voted no. I only do CW currently so maybe I am biased but I think we can only do one time period well. The moderation and admin could get confusing and difficult. We would need to have mods for each specific time period which increase the need to find willing and able staff.

I do agree with opening the years allowed window as stated above.

My suggestion is no for many of the same reasons as above, but I do think conversations relating to the decade prior and the decade after the war would be entirely acceptable.

Re: Different Time Periods for the AC?

        Hallo!

"History" does not exist, nor did it exist,, in a vacuum. And everyone, use of a universal so noted, of the Civil War was alive before it. And many after.

But, I think the harder thing is drawing lines perhaps. Say....
Does the Civil War extend to the end of Reconstruction in 1877? Did not numbers of (ex) Confederates move West after the War and become western settlers and farmers, and cowboys, etc.?

Re: Different Time Periods for the AC?

I am no expert on the community and management of AC (this my first time posting on a board actually :D) but from what I do know I imagine it would be quite difficult to make such changes without seriously disrupting the organization of the AC forums as it is.

That being said, you could always create a list of ‘supported sites’ that would link over to various other campaigner groups from different periods that you feel meet campaigner standards. A sort of promotion, you could say, for progressive and authentic reenacting across all eras.

I am just chiming in here to let everyone know that I am reading your posts here with great interest. Your feedback is definitely appreciated. I felt that this is a question that needed to be asked.

I voted no as well. This site is a beacon of authenticity to us who are just getting started into authentic reenacting.

Re: Different Time Periods for the AC?

My first reaction is to vote no. I don't want to see this site diluted with info that most won't have come here to see. But could such a move be financially beneficial to the site overall? A lot of the folks offering opinions aren't paying members. I just re-upped my donation which I felt was overdue for a while now. I know Eric didn't mean this to be a money motivated discussion, and finances may not figure into this at all. But it does take resources to keep a site of this caliber up and running....whether time OR money. I only do "CW", therefore don't want to have to sift through Great War stuff every day(Though I'd probably appreciate most of it). I agree with the points Andy stated earlier. If it was done, it would have to be done in a way that didn't represent too much "change" to us "set-in -their-way" types. But if it was beneficial to the AC overall, I'd be for it. Maybe a "2 for 1" membership deal to "sister" sites? The AC is on it's way back to where it was in the glory days. It takes resources to do that, whether by increased viewership (advertising), or more "paying customers". Still leaning towards no personally, but open to the idea.

Keep up the good work Eric, Paul, and mods!!

Re: Different Time Periods for the AC?

I'd say no just because you shouldn't dilute the product. I did WWI the last five years and there is not the traffic on those forums that you have on the AC, however I think it is much more complex because you have Germans, Russians, French, Brits, KUK, Canadians, Aussies, and Americans. This includes uniform and gear info, language issues, trench issues, planes, and machine guns for different for each country- in short for the relatively small but growing community that does WWI the amount of info is staggering. Not to mention there are some groups that do things right, and some others that are not so much in it for authenticity as others have mentioned.

Just a reminder to everyone that this poll is open until tomorrow night at 9:12 PM. Certainly, the outcome won't change, but we are counting every vote! I have an idea on how we can proceed on this question, but want to hear from everyone we can. Thanks!

Re: Different Time Periods for the AC?

                          Greetings:

And... this poll is officially closed. Thank you to everyone who voted and participated in the discussion. We will have some announcements here soon regarding this topic. Don't worry! It was 80% - 20% against different time periods. That is good to know. So, we will have a little wrinkle to throw in here soon... Civil War related. Stay tuned.

Thanks again everyone. I don't think you realize how important it is to get feedback like this from you.
