Questioning the Moderators Moves and Motives

Please take care in your posting so as to avoid openly questioning the way a moderator moderates. If you feel one of the mods has acted unfairly, it's better to go directly to them or to me rather then posting on the forum. In fact, use the Report a Post feature and report what you think is unfair. That will provide the moderators with a basis of discussion... just don't be a chicken little, please. :p

As a parent, you would never want your childs teacher questioning your motives in front of your kids. As a commissioned service officer, you would never want your NCOs questioning your decisions in front of your enlistedmen. Lets apply that logic here as well.

That doesn't mean you can't question us ... by all means DO. But do it the right way, please.

I'm inviting discussion on this point - do the rest of you feel that this is an appropriate policy? It sure makes sense to me.

I couldn't agree with you more, It's just a matter of respect. I've been in similar situations before, and I can tell you, that it is very humiliating to be questioned in front of your peers when your in a position of authority. It does nothing to maintain proper courtesies. Moderators have been chosen so for a reason and they deserve their credit! :)

I agree totally. A good way to avoid embarassment for the moderators and maintain respect for those who deserve it.

I have moderated several places in the past (and still do) and even ran an entire forum for pay from Compuserve back in the dark ages, and I can assure you that the best way in the world to not get what you want is to question the moderator in public.

Discussing things backstage without anyone having an audience to play to is undoubtedly a good thing. But, just as it is sometimes good for Paul to post the hate mail he gets, it may also sometimes be useful and instructive to tell the forum about discussions that have been held, and their outcomes, if the information will help people understand why things are the way they are. (I'm sure not every behind-the-scenes discussion is worth summarizing, let me add that.)

One should email or contact the moderator directly if they have a problem with the moderator. Especially in Mr. Calloway's case as he could take the whole site down. The others take this on as an additional duty.

Bottom line keep the dispute private!
