Over the last couple of years, the AC has become much more active on Social Media. We put out regular updates on what is going on here at the forums to keep you in touch with the latest discussions, research, preservation news and event updates. As we all know, in today's hobby, Social Media is an essential tool to communicate and to promote our hobby.
Our Facebook page features all of the regular updates on the site. We also utilize this page heavily for preservation efforts, especially our #PreserveHistory Campaign. We currently have 5,533 followers on Facebook (and growing). This means that every time we put out a post, it has the potential to reach that many people plus all of their connections. These days, each group and each event has their own FB page, because it is a very effective communication tool. Think of our page as the umbrella for everyone. We encourage you to share the links to your pages or groups here, especially if you are promoting your event or your group. Let's work together to utilize this powerful tool.

On Twitter, we provide regular updates for our site and will occasionally re-tweet information from other Civil War resources and history groups. If you are familiar with the use of hashtags, we regularly use the tags #CivilWar #LivingHistory and #PreserveHistory. If you also use these tags, it will populate the search functions with your posts and ours. It is a way to monopolize the search results when people are looking for these topics. If you follow us, we will also follow your site or personal account. This is all about networking and communication between the AC and you and your groups. We currently have 924 followers on Twitter and we follow 1,292 different accounts.

So, let's continue to utilize Social Media for our hobby. Facebook and Twitter will help us all reach outside of our hobby and attract new people to the fold. Every reenactor is a potential convert. We just want to let you know that we are out there spreading the word. You are too and that is great. The old world of forums, web sites and listservers is long gone. What has replaced it can help us grow our hobby and reach the next generation of living historians.
