Confederate or Federal?

A simple poll question for the military members here. Let's do some 2016 market research together, shall we? What is your primary impression? Confederate or Federal? Let's see what the real numbers are. Aren't you curious? I am.

Second part of the question is a little tougher. Why?

I have both impressions. I primarily portray Federal; there are never too few Rebs!

I used to do alot of federal here in Ga since we always had a shortage it seemed. Now after so many years of doing research and having the service records of 21 ancestors,((grandfathers and uncles several greats back)) that were in the Confederate service I just prefer to do Confederate now.

Federal for me. Partly because I'm from Wisconsin, mostly because I have ancestors in Wisconsin regiments.

I do both, but I mainly do Federal. There always seems to be plenty more confederates at reenactments I attend, the unit I'm apart of mainly does Federal, and for whatever reason, which I haven't pin-pointed, I enjoy doing Federal more. Not to mention that I don't have an entire confederate kit put together... yet.

A tough one. I may skew the numbers. :)

I started out, for years, 100% Federal.
Then I shifted to 100% Confederate for years.
Then I shifted to 'Impression du Jour" or US/CS event specific impressions about 50/50% for years.

Lately I have been selling off all CS, and keeping just (western) Federal.

So, I voted Federal. :)

I do Federal as my primary impression. Why? When I started in this hobby with Camp Fuller out of Rockford Ill. many, many years ago there was no "authentic" arm. Everything was mainstream, and to me the Federal side was more authentic (in Northern Illinois). That was my perception anyway, who knows the reality. That was 1973. The Confederate side had too many fellows that wanted to drink all night and party (anybody remember a fellow called 400 grains), and that was not the reason I wanted to do this. I'm sure there were good Confederate units out there, they just weren't close to where I lived.
Even though I have only found Confederate ancestors I still prefer to do Federal. I have kit for both, and can do most time frames and theaters for Confederate, I still prefer the blue.

When I started reenacting in 1999, my impression was primarily Federal (grew up in CT, joined a CT unit and my GGGrandfather served in the 60th Mass Infantry in '64). In 2004, I expanded my impression to Confederate too. Now that I live in NC, I primarily do Confederate, but try to do Federal whenever possible as that where my roots are....just my .02.

Like many, I do both. For the past couple of years, it's been mainly CS. But my primary impression is definitely US - specifically USSS. :)

I do federal as my main impression since that is the unit I originally joined here in the territories. We have living history events at State Historical parks such as Fort Hartsuff, Fort Kearny, and Rock Creek Station that promote not only the Civil War but the Plains Wars.

Since moving into the progressive side of the hobby all the events I've attended have been as a confederate.

My home unit is the 3rd US Infantry and did the 150th Cycle Fed. My first unit in the Army was 3rd US infantry so being a Regular was an easy fit. I picked up a lot of Confederate kit to be able to do either side to fill the bill for extras in films and documentaries. I am now a member of the Regulars, the Hot Mess (guys from the 28th Mass and 3rd US who do campaign events) and the 47th VA Infantry. This cycle I think I will do a lot of Confederate to get "the rest of the story."
