Perhaps we should create a poll to see if people are voting more, less or about the same? ;)

      Re: Reenacting More or Less?

Unfortunately for myself; teaching/coaching and the weekend a month training eliminates a lot of events that I had wanted to go to before. Then there's the people I've never met, but now required to go to their parties/weddings as a result of marriage has kept me from adding a few more notches to my reenacting belt.

        Re: Reenacting More or Less?

With three kids(and one on the way) I have found that it is much harder to get out anymore now that they are older. I go to two maybe three events a year. When my two oldest were little I went to 6-7 events a year. Now trying to find a weekend where they don't have something going on is difficult. I will say I am glad I made a lot of events that I did in the 90s and early 2000s.

          Re: Reenacting More or Less?

Since the 150th cycle ended I have been doing less,

Work and .mil commitments have kept me from doing most of the events I have wanted to attend this season as well as the 150th. I missed all of 1862 due to a deployment.

I have more or less focused on doing quality LH programs for the Park Service and a local museum. The ability to interact with the public and show them an accurate portrayal of Soldiers has more allure than simply burning powder regardless if it is advertised as a "Quality Event", "Adjunct" or, a "Farb Fest."

The end of the 150ths has meant fewer work weekends, planning meetings, site rides, property reviews, mail to answer, and endless conference calls from hell :), and then the calls before and after the conference calls.

This leaves more time for the wheel and the loom, much more time in the 18th century, and a lot of time in original documents and material culture. Quality civilian opportunities continue to be where we make them.

Less for sure. Three boys, work, and other volunteer efforts have taken a toll. Still enjoy attending events, hosting events, just less than years ago. 2-3 event club. Looking forward to 2017. Just ask my pards the last time I was able to crank out a unit newsletter. : ).

                Re: Reenacting More or Less?

I have done drastically less in the last two years unfortunately. Just a combination of different life events. With my active hiatus though has come a lot of new research to help with my impression, so not all bad has come from it. I plan on ending my hiatus come next years season.

Much less in the last few years. Between Uncle Sam owning me for a while and now working and being a full time student, it's hard to pick and choose which events I can and cannot attend.

                    Re: Reenacting More or Less?

Less than before....but I did so many events every year from circa 2004 to 2010 that it was difficult to keep that up. Now I usually seem to do 1 or 2 long travel events per year and several more within an hour or two of home.

Unfortunately I have only done a training camp since 150th Shiloh due to getting ill at the event but also a lot of life stuff including retiring and moving to SC...but I'm hoping to get back in the groove very soon now that "life" is calming down.

                        Re: Reenacting More or Less?

Real life brought me pretty much to a complete halt after the 135th cycle. Kids were growing up fast and I made a decision rather than reenact to spend more family time with them. Thing is, I got older in the process and haven't been back to an event but am still reading and learning. I'm now getting a pretty decent "fix" by competing in the NSSA, but toying with the idea of doing events again.
