  • How Old Are You?

    Greetings!

A simple question to find out some demographic info about our hobby. What is your age? No worries. This is an anonymous poll. Let's see some large voter turnout on this one. We are building market research from various poll questions that will be published in an upcoming article. So, how old are you?

I suppose you'd not like "fun" answers like: Old enough to know better, still too young to care?

Throw this on the Facebook page and you'll increase the response I think. These numbers don't even reflect a small EFUBU event.

I notice that the current "spikes" in the population are folks in their early 30's and in their early 50's. I think this may show the effect that the hobby has on parents...

Early 30's... folks with no kids, or young kids.
Early 50's... newly minted "empty nesters" who can dedicate more time and effort to the hobby.

Folks between those two ages are growing their careers, as well as raising children who are involved in an increasing number of activities (sports, scouting, clubs, "social" (for the southern folks)) that virtually eliminate parents' free time...
          ...and disposable income!

It will be interesting to see if this trend persists as the number of poll participants increases.

Jason, yep, it was posted on FB as soon as the poll went up over the weekend. Pinned it to the top of our page this morning. We would like to get a lot more votes to give us a better sample. Keep them coming! Only takes a minute to log in and vote. We can talk all day long on social media whether the hobby is growing or dying or we can all participate and look for some answers.

                          Re: How Old Are You?

It is surprising to me actually how it is spread out statistically among the various age groups. Even allowing for "small sample size" this suggests a broader base of appeal than I thought. I am more surprised that the under 25 demographic isn't fuller, too. I guess they have the time but not the money or interest?

Being way too close to 60 for comfort, I'm not so sure that I could do another soldier impression. It's not because of the marching and physical stuff because I'm in far better condition than most 30yo but rather just how many combatants were of my age in the War? I'm thinking of some type of other impression, civilian or other part of the military where age wouldn't have been a barrier or liability.
