Re: What are your favorite WBTS units.

1st Iowa Infantry- hardships and epic marches on the "Lyon Campaign," valor at Wilson's Creek. Fun impression to do (uniform? what uniform?)

2nd Iowa Infantry- charging the works at Donelson, V.P. Twombley and all that. Have not had a chance yet to portray the 2nd in my many years in the hobby but its on my CW "bucket list."

3rd Iowa Infantry- generally chewed up, one of the relatively rare FEDERAL units to be consolidated due to losses (with the 2nd.) Company K was a hometown unit (Cedar Falls.)

9th Iowa Infantry- epic march and heroism at Pea Ridge. Served the last 3 years of the war with "the other" Iowa Brigade, Williamson's. Company G a hometown unit (Waterloo,) 5 members buried about 10 blocks from my house.

11th Iowa Infantry- Hairy Nation "base" impression, so a no-brainer. Valor at Shiloh, Atlanta. member of the famous Crocker's Iowa Brigade.

19th Iowa Infantry- that charge at Prairie Grove gives me goose bumps.

31st Iowa Infantry- a little personal nostalgia here, this was the impression of my first reenacting unit. brave charges at Chickasaw Bluffs, Lookout Mountain. Possibly the first unit in Columbia SC (disputed with another Iowa reg.,) definitely one of the regiments charged with provost that first night in Columbia- you know, the night it burned. Companies A & B were hometown units, B's flag still hangs in a museum 1/2 mile from my house.

39th Iowa Infantry- I have a thing for Corse, and his ear (what was left of it.)

1st Northeast Missouri Home Guard- victors against all odds at Athens. Great fun to portray, for the same reason as I listed for the 1st Iowa. progenitor unit of--

21st Missouri Infantry- first full regiment into the fray at Pittsburg Landing. Quite possibly the worst disciplined regiment in the entire United States Army.

              CS

I don't generally like to celebrate rebels, but I do have a soft spot for the Missouri State Guard. There were some who accomplished more, but name one that did so with less.

My favorites are based as much on the quality of the unit accounts I've read as their battlefield efforts.
