Come help us recreate a typical day at the Ohio Statehouse during the American Civil War. According to the report from the Superintendent of the Statehouse in 1865, “Soldiers have indeed almost constantly occupied the capitol from the beginning to the end of the war; sometimes for days and nights, often but for a single night. Men in squads, companies and regiments, armed and unarmed, passing to and from the field . . .” “The rotunda, halls, terrace, and grounds have been freely used by soldiers and recruits.” (Superintendent of the Statehouse, 1863) This daylong Union living history event will begin early Saturday morning with some units rising from their rest, drilling on the grounds and marching to the union Depot. Units will arrive throughout the day. Some will receive their pay. Others paper and pencils to write home. Local citizens will leave donations in the office of the Soldiers Aid Society. Throughout the day prayer meetings, singing, and martial music will be heard in the halls of the State Capitol. The event will end in the evening with a grand ball. If you are interested in attending this event please contact Lt. Joel Flint, 1st Ohio Light Artillery, Statehouse Education & Visitors Center, The Ohio Statehouse Columbus, OH 43215, (614) 728-2698, jflint@csrab.state.oh.us for more information and for registration materials.
Joel, several things. One, you must sign all of your posts with your full name as stated in the rules that you reviewed prior to registering with the site. Consider this your second warning. Also, without knowing the authenticity level of this event, I am not sure it even belongs on this forum. Why post the cancellation here if the event announcement wasn't made here? Third, the post would be located in the wrong folder anyway - Mike Chapman
