  • Wanna Be on the February Cover of the AC?

    Greetings:

Do you have an image that you would like to submit for the February 2007 "cover" of the Authentic Campaigner? We are looking for images that best-exemplify the look of the authentic living historian. Images taken with period technology only, please. (wet plate, etc.) are required. Both citizen and military images are welcome.

New This Month - The final three will be required to submit a description of their image for the purpose of the final vote. For example - what was the inspiration? From original image? What is the impression, etc. As we have discussed previously, we would very much like to see a more in-depth discussion of the images that are submitted. Chiming in with "me too" is ideally not the feedback that we would like to see. Your constructive input is encouraged and appreciated.

    Submission Guidelines:

    1) We will accept the first ten image submissions only. The thread will be closed after the tenth image is submitted.
    2) Once we have ten images, the high privates will select the final three. The final three will then be put up for a general vote to the membership of the forum. The winning image will be placed on the front "cover" of the web site for one month.
    3) If you aren't able to get your image into the first vote, you are more than welcome to re-submit it for the next cover. We will be changing them every month.
    4) Make sure and attach the photo to your post. If necessary, we will crop the photo for the best fit.
    5) The Moderators/Administrators reserve the right to remove any submittals that they feel don't meet the standards of the Authentic Campaigner.

    Let's see those images!

Re: Wanna Be on the February Cover of the AC?

The following image was taken at the Amherst Museum on June 24, 2006. It was taken by Photographic Emporium of Niagara Falls, (the gentleman was instructed under John Coffer).

(In case of 'final three' and my inability to get the the computer sooner: )

The reason Dave Ahrens and I chose this pose was based on the numerous photos of best pards sitting together (and probably for splitting cost, as we did). Our impression was geared toward the XI Corps when they were transferred West. The reason for the watch was that it was actually set to 6:24, in the event that it showed up on the tin, it would have signified the day we got the image taken. I have a modified sack coat with the addition of 3 buttons - for a total of seven. The image speaks for it self - we were grimey, sweaty and looking like we mean business - after all, we were representing the all-business attitude that those Dutch soldiers felt having to prove their worth, despite their unfortunate nickname.

      Thank you,

Well, that makes ten. Thanks to all who submitted. We will determine the final three and have them up for the general vote in a few days.

Remember that if your image makes it to the final three, we would like some specific information about the impression, inspiration for the photo or some historical context.

                            This thread is officially closed.
