  • Vote For the April Cover

    Greetings:

This month, we will have two finalists for the April Cover. We had a three-way tie for third and those images were way behind these final two, so let's go with the best two head-to-head. Please vote for the image that you feel is the most authentic. If your image is one of the final two, you must provide some background information about the inspiration or impression for the image in this thread.

We encourage more specific discussion about the images. In other words, if you like the image, please don't just chime in with a "me too". Tell us why you think one image is superior to another.

Image #1 - Click here to view.
Image #2 - Click here to view.

Thanks to everyone who submitted. Good luck to the finalists.

This poll will close in four days.

Well, I see the trans miss has once again missed the mark. Suprise, suprise. I guess we need to step to please the high privates. I'll sit this one out.

    Oh well,

Re: Vote For the April Cover

      Greetings,

My vote for was for image #1.

An "at the moment" image whose composition does not appear to be overly "staged". A nice change from the common (then and now) image of one or more people staring blankly at the camera with too many props.

Kinda falls into a similar category of period images I've seen and remembered for their different-than-usual-ness. One is a photo of a Union officer (sorry can't remember which at the moment) asleep on a cot in his tent, the other is a photo of a young rebel in an early war image in which he is pointing his revolver directly at the camera, again, sorry I cannot remember the subject's, or the photographer's, name.

      Regards,
      Bob Roeder

          Lawson,
I'm not one to add fuel to the fire, however I will say that I am very suprised not to see Mike's image submission as part of the voting for this month's contest.

I would say both images are great, but I voted for #1. Image #1 is a fantastic Federal officers pose and in a way, it looks original, which is the reason why I voted for it.

            Nice image Pat....

Even though Image #1 is striking. I think Image #2 seems to capture some attitude as well.
Had to go for Image #2

                  Jay and Lawson,
Submit it next month. Similar things have happened to images I have set up, and others have as well, don't get bent out of shape about it. This process was set up to be fun and honestly I wish they would do away with it and start posting original images

I went with number 2 as I thought it came closest to an original.

Naw, not getting bent out of shape by any means. Really not that big a deal, and I didn't submit it.

                        Just a bit surprised

I chose #2 because you can see a little of something larger scale taking place in the background, but the look on the men's faces says they have other worries now. Besides, I could never vote for that officer that kept me imprisoned at Fort Pulaski. Sorry Pat!

Although both images are great, I had to vote for number 1. I have seen several original images stricken in similar poses, and I can envision a period photographer striking just such a fascinating wetplate.

                            Great image!
