    Re: Generational Reenacting

I am a second generation reenactor. My father worked for the Detroit historical society in the early 1980's. Union solider in the 24th Michigan, and a colonial French Marine, were the impressions he did for living history presentations at Fort Wayne, and Detroit public schools. Then from the 90's up until he died, he was active in French and Indian war reenacting. So here I am, another member of the family born a hundred or so years too late.:D

      Re: Generational Reenacting

My father got me interested in the 19th century by buying me those Time Life books on the old west. And then the Civil War, by subscribing to Civil War Times magazine back in the 70's. And then finding out that modern day people actually reenacted the battles really got me interested.
I am basically a first generation reenactor. Tried getting into this when I was much younger and in better shape, but I couldn't get the time or money because I was serving in the Army and much of the time overseas.
I'm the only one in my family doing this. My wife doesn't care too much for it.
      Oh well.
Hoping I last till the final 150th Anniversary of events.:o
      Nice thread by the way!:wink_smil

I am a 1st generation, however, several members of our group are father son recruits. I think family has a lot to do with a persons level of interest.

First Generation. My son is still in diapers, so it'll be a while for him. However, I am introducing my teenage nephew to the hobby this month. I've been sewing like a madman to get him ready for his first event!

I wish I had learned about it 25 years ago! Then there might have been a 2nd involved as well.

My uncle took me out to my first event when I was 12. The rest of my family thinks we're insane.

                      Re: Generational Reenacting

First generation. My brother and I went to our 1st event in 1974. It was at Newmarket, Va, in a constant downpour. We came back wet, muddy, hungry and exhausted. Naturally we decided this was the life for us. I went to the Newmarket event in 1999 for my 25th anniversary.
When any of my lady friends found out how I spent my time and money, they refused to marry or have children with me. They feared this mental condition was genetic I think. I guess I won't be seeing any 2nd wave.

Got into the hobby 1996 at an event manning a SCV booth. My daughter had a WBTS wedding and married a feller in the Cavalry. My enitre family does it except my wife and she thinks we're crazy but that's alright. Been doing it ever since.

First generation, starting in 1990. My late dad didn't have the opportunity, or, I'm sure, the desire to reenact anything, as he served in Europe during WWII. That was enough for him. We'll see if my sons ever follow along with me in this hobby.
