  • Wanna Be on the June Cover of the AC?

    Greetings:

It is time to search for the June Cover of the Authentic Campaigner. Do you have an image that you would like to submit for the cover?

We are looking for images that best-exemplify the look of the authentic living historian. Images taken with period technology only, please. (wet plate, etc.) are required. We will also accept pencil, paint or similiar sketches done in the field (again, the image must have been done with period technology only).

    Submission Guidelines:

    1) If you have submitted an image within the last six months, do not re-submit the image. We want to start with a fresh field this month and give other people a shot. From now on, we will accept images that have not been submitted within the last six months. Thank you.
    2) We will accept the first ten image submissions only. The thread will be closed after the tenth image is submitted.
    3) Once we have ten images, the staff will select the final three. The final three will then be put up for a general vote to the membership of the forum. The winning image will be placed on the front "cover" of the web site for one month.
    4) Make sure and attach the photo to your post. If necessary, we will crop the photo for the best fit.
    5) The Moderators/Administrators reserve the right to remove any submittals that they feel don't meet the standards of the Authentic Campaigner.

    Let's see those images!

I'll throw my hat into the ring. Don't know what this will look like as it's a scan. The Furious Five Mess (in its 2003 incarnation: Standing: David Barno, Bob Muehleisen, Eric Gott, John Walsh; seated: Keith Tillou, Jeff McIntire, Bobby Williams) at Gibson's Photographic Studio in Gettysburg. My understanding is that Gibson still has this displayed in his front parlor.

If we look peaked, know that the portrait was done on March 18, 2003--and it was the day after McIntire's bachelor party. A night to remember (or at least, not very well) to be sure.

I'll take a stab at it. This photo was taken by Chris Morgan in August of '06 at a living history at Bentonville, NC. This was my early war musicians impression.

Ferrotype taken yesterday at Resaca by Wendell Decker.

          Representing the 7th Ohio, Co K., XX Corps, 2nd Div.;

"The 7th Ohio was formed in 1861 and for many of it's original members the Battle of Resaca was their last action before being discharged from service. The 7th Ohio was assigned to Col. Charles Candy's 1st Brigade of Gen. John Geary's 2nd Division of Hooker's XX Army Corps (White stars) just prior to the Battle of Resaca. Before that they had been in the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division of the XII Army Corps. At the time of Resaca Co. K had only 33 members with 1/3 of those being officers and NCOs."

Their presence was felt at Resaca
in 1864 as well as this past weekend!!!

Great job by the officers and NCOs. Looking forward to another great time.

I'll be looking for the other images from this weekend. Funnell cakes anyone?

I don't know whether this would be considered appropriate. If it isn't, please just take it down. I feel a little awkward submitting a portrait of myself anyway -- goodness knows I'd rather die than let anyone see a wetplate image of me -- but I wanted to honor Frank Aufmuth's talent as an artist. He drew this image at the Oregon Trail event earlier this spring. It was done in pencil in a hand-bound book he carries to all events. He even did his erasures with bread!
