Re: what Jacket would you perfer.
Is the intent of this question to find out what jackets we like or which major CS army impression we prefer?Soli Deo Gloria

Re: what Jacket would you perfer.
My answer would be it depends on the impression. If I am doing a western theater impression I would likely wear my CD jacket or an Atlanta Depot dependent upon what the group I was portraying wore. If I were representing the ANV, I would likely wear a RD. Once agin it all depends upon the research of the group being portrayed.Robert Collett

Can't some of our good friends send us some tobacco? We intend to "hang up our stockings." if they can't send tobacco, please send us the seed, and we will commence preparing the ground; for we mean to defend this place till h-ll freezes over, and then fight the Yankees on the ice.

Re: what Jacket would you perfer.
I'm sorry, I really hate to be "that guy," but this is silly. The intent of the thread might be towards innocent fun and conversation, but don't posts like this sort of thing go against the entire aim of these boards? And the same thing for the Slouch Hat vs. Kepi poll.
I don't wish to single out Aaron Bolis or Andrew Turner on this matter, just to be clear. But am I wrong to consider this type of conversation a violation of forum rules? Keeping with what I comprehend to be the mind-set of this site, shouldn't questions like this be removed or rephrased? Moderators?
Would it not fit better (for example) to ask something along the lines of:
Would a slouch hat or a cap be more appropriate for a 15th Georgia impression during the Gettysburg campaign?
-or-
For a 5th Texas impression, would they have drawn Richmond II patterned jackets prior to the Maryland campaign?
-or-
Would a Columbus Depot (or "Georgia Jacket") be appropriate for a 33rd Alabama impression during the Atlanta campaign?
Read a book. Study a photograph. And, if that doesn't help, then ask. Being informed then asking for help when you're stumped is the most commendable method, IMO.
I, for one, could really care less about what other guys in the hobby prefer to wear in the field. I'm only concerned with what the guys of '61-'65 were wearing.

Re: what Jacket would you perfer.
Jim,
My intention for the Slouch Hat vs. Kepi thread was to see if anybody else has seen a noticeable difference the amount of kepis worn to the amount of slouch. As far as my research goes I have seen a lot more slouch hats from mid 62' -the end of the war and I was asking specifically for th ANV, I was also just trying to get a second opinion.
It also seems like the standard response for these questions is "Ask your unit NCO's".

We're getting a lot of alerts about this thread and I agree with most of them. This question is far too broad and the poll options are far too few.Paul Calloway

It also seems like the standard response for these questions is "Ask your unit NCO's"
1) The question is so silly that it's not worth the effort to even type when one of your sergeants can answer you in a few seconds next weekend around the fire
2) While it may be a silly thread, some folks really have no idea how to best answer you, but wanna post anyways (tell me I'm wrong) and "ask your NCO" is a quick an easy response for somebody that can't understand why everyone else is chuckling at the thread, but wants to be in on the gag
And, I don't know that the questions I threw out there would generate this response, necessarily. Yeah, one of your NCOs might be able to answer those questions, but what's he basing his response on to a more specific question like that?
I suppose my whole point is that folks shouldn't be afraid to ask questions for fear of da big bad hardkewls striking them down. But, at the same time, others need to know that a more educated group of people will give you more educated answers and directions to well thought-out questions.Jim Conley

If we persist with this poll, the following makes way more sense: how about "What basic Confederate theater impression do you prefer - Eastern, Western or Trans-Mississippi?"Soli Deo Gloria
