Server upgrade announcements

Some of you saw that hiccup this morning where the AC was down for a bit.

We are apparently way over usage on our current server plan. We have no choice but to upgrade. We'll probably have some downtime in the next 24 hours as this resolves.

Paul,

Perhaps it is high time to trim the fat of 5,000 largely inactive and non-contributing screen names, and refine those numbers to about 1,000 members who are at least somewhat active contributors. In a round about way, this may also help stem the annual summer freshet of mainstreamers (and worse) without clues.

Just a thought.

Good idea as long as it is possible to identify those who may log in regularly without posting. I know a few people who rarely if ever post here but use the site as a research tool regularly. I would rather have 2,000 of them than 200 who want to know how to defarb their Wally World speckleware. I.e. don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

By my quick numbers, only 1,620 of us have logged on in the last 6 months (1/16/07-7/16/07)

Chris, not sure what you're basing that on exactly but I show more than 1,500 that have logged in the last two weeks alone.

No doubt your numbers are correct.

Here is how I arrived at my numbers: If you click on 'members', then click on 'last visit', then click through the pages to January 16th you'll end up on the 54th page at 30 members per page that's 1,620.

Now if you just go back two weeks to the 35th page or July 1st, that'll be about 1,050.

Obviously your numbers are move correct and my method isn't as accurate as I just have the public numbers.

In any case, Charle's assessment that about 1,000 members are current and active is pretty accurate.

Wasn’t something along the lines of what Charles said done a few years ago?

I am one of those that posts very seldom but I log on at least twice a day if not more. It is like an addiction to see what information is available to learn. Plus what gear is for sale!!

The Server Upgrade didn't go well

Just FYI -
If you're having viewing/posting issues, our server upgrade yesterday didn't resolve the issues on the site we were hoping for. I'm working on the problem with our host and hope to have things fully resolved in the next 24-48 hours.

Don't be surprised if you come back to popup advertising for Pizza Hut or Chico's Bail Bonds. You fans of the Bad News Bears might appreciate the latter.
