Border Ruffians get very little attentnion in the hobby so I am glad to see this has been portrayed so well and with a great deal of thought. Very nice!

Not only is Jay a superb living historian (with an itchy trigger finger in this photo - well done), but if anybody writes "Border Ruffians in the Attic" you got the cover photo!!
Perhaps Jay hangs our with Hodge too much now... Their images are almost identical. Although taken at very different times, and two different photographiers... All the images from 'Bad Blood' rock. I would be proud to serve in the ranks of a fine border ruffian such as Jayman!

I don't want to hijack this thread, so posted a great period article over in the Research Articles folder. This should answer some of the questions and is a good read.

Has anyone noticed the amount of footage that Dooley gets in the Wide Awake DVD at Perryville? I think Hodge is intimidated by this border ruffian too! "...Yeah anything you say Jay. You want to be in more shots, gulp, you got it..."

Veterans would tell of Sherman's ordering a flanking movement and instructing a subordinate how to report his progress: "See here Cox, burn a few barns occasionally, as you go along. I can't understand those signal flags, but I know what smoke means"
#2.The intensity of the image is one not often seen here.As already stated, the border ruffian/Missouri partisan impression does not get a lot of attention.Neither does the Kansas militia/redleg impression.Looking at period images of the likes of Jim Lane,William Anderson, etc. one can see that same "flame" in the countenance.

I have seen Jay in person and he is much more fierce looking in the flesh, but the image does capture the essence of a Trans-Mississippi fellow, though I must say, most of us are actually only vicious on the inside.

Keep in mind my buddy and messmate, TJ is in there as well. In fleeting footage, and even those who aren't around us a lot, we are many times confused one for the other.
