I think we need more Civilian musician images. :D

        To all:

How about these images for the cover of the AC? One is of me in Iraq in January 2006 and one is of me last week at a Woodbury, CT event.

I doubt my ugly mug in this poor quality image would make it, I am interested if this 1/4 Plate Daugerrotype taken of me meets the "four criteria" talked about...

                Great images!

The image taken in Woodbury wold be a great one to submit for the cover image.

Even with the modern picture right beside the ambrotype, the two do not appear to be the same person. It looks as though you've gained weight since your return from Iraq. But the nose, the trace of the cheek line, the dimple in the chin, etc. are all different in each of the two pictures.

And by the way... welcome back, and from a retired Jarhead, thank you .

Re: Wanna Be on the September Cover of the AC?

Well, it is me unbelievably- when I got back from Iraq in MAR 07, my wife and I went on a eating/shopping rampage through Europe... Scotland, Venice, Amsterdam. Being in Europe was awesome- so hard not to stuff yer face and especially after you got back from 14 months of starvation/sweating off water-weight gain. I lived with the Iraqis for 7 months of it while training them and all I had to eat were MREs and Iraqi food. YUK!!! You'll lose some weight there from salmonella/dysentery alone with that!

                  Rather eat hardtack and bacon...

                  Vietnam? "Welcome home, brother..."

Thanks for the vote on the pic. I think it's something different -real war, not real war juxtaposition...

Re: Wanna Be on the September Cover of the AC?

Vietnam? No... I'm just prematurely aged (thanks to 21 years in the Infantry). I retired as a Master Sergeant in Dec, of '03.

I know the 'Welcome Home' phrase is more often tied to Vietnam Veterans whose home coming was less than properly celebrated by our Nation.... but I feel that all Servicemen returning from a combat tour deserve a heart felt 'Welcome Home'.

I know what you mean about Europe. I spent 13 months in Saudi as an advisor to their Marine Brigades, and from their, was posted to the US Embassy in Budapest, Hungary for 18 months, during which I took the opportunity to travel the continent a bit (of course... from Budapest I went to the Embassy in Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman for 18 months. These tours along with service in the 1st Gulf war has had me in the Arabian sand for an aggregate 40 months of fun and sun!)

                      Gunny Hicks,

I think that unofficially qualifies you as an honorary bedu. ;)

                      John,

I really like the side by side comparrison of the images, sort of a "warriors - then and now" treatment.

Thanks to you for your service, and to your family for sacrificing your company while you placed your life on the line for the benefit of others.

Johnny welcome Home! Good job Marine! Nice pics! Both of them. I would have just one suggestion to your modern photo: add the body armor, assorted molle pouches, camel bak and kevlar! The would be an appropriate modern warrior photo. Just my 0.02!

I hope to be home for some R&R in about 4 days from now! Take care and I'll see ya' at Sep Storm!
