  • Wanna Be on the October Cover of the AC?

    Greetings:

It is time to search for the October Cover of the Authentic Campaigner. Do you have an image that you would like to submit? Give it a shot. You never know.

We are looking for images that best-exemplify the look of the authentic living historian. Images taken with period technology only, please. (wet plate, etc.) are required. We will also accept pencil, paint or similiar sketches done in the field (again, the image must have been done with period technology only).

    Submission Guidelines:

    1) If you have submitted an image within the last six months, do not re-submit the image. We will not accept images that have been submitted within the last six months.
    2) We will accept the first ten image submissions only. The thread will be closed after the tenth image is submitted, and any images submitted after the tenth will be deleted from the thread.
    3) Once we have ten images, the staff will select the final three. The final three will then be put up for a general vote to the membership of the forum. The winning image will be placed on the front "cover" of the web site for one month.
    4) Make sure and attach the photo to your post. If necessary, we will crop the photo for the best fit.
    5) The Moderators/Administrators reserve the right to remove any submittals that they feel don't meet the standards of the Authentic Campaigner.

    Let's see those images!

Re: Wanna Be on the October Cover of the AC?

      Eric-

My submission didn't make it in time for the 1st 10 on last month's September thread, so here goes again if you will indulge me.

My submission can be used either with or without the modern photo attached. I like to call it "Dual Wars, but both Grey..." but you can do as you see necessary.

My period-looking photo is from the Woodbury, CT event in August 2007 and the real modern photo is of me at Al Asad, Iraq in Feb. 2006. I took it in a fit of boredom during a "lull in the action" in my quarters there at the old Iraqi Airbase now turned US Marine base. Soon after, I was attached onto a Military Instructor Transition Team (MITT) to advise Iraqis in areas of supply management.
The "period" image is me in my Confederate ANV mid-war kit. "Richmond 1863". The glasses I am wearing in the picture are originals from the 1840s.

You may use both to edit side-by-side as I have done already or use the one I edited together for you. Enjoy.

I took the real, modern combat photo in hopes that when I finally got out of the Army, I'd get my period image made in its style. I thank God for my getting home safely as well as pray for others down in Iraq continuing the brave legacy of both the Blue and the Grey. Amen and God bless our troops in harm's way.

May they all come safely back to our America!

      Thanks! -Johnny Lloyd

Well, here’s my try at it. This is a half plate tintype taken by Steve Ingram June '07. This is our mess photo, 17th Mo. Infantry. Standing is Skip Korte on the right, I'm holding the cup, 1st Sgt. Skip Arensmann sitting, and Cpl. Jacob Thompson lying in front.

Samantha, you pic didn't get attached for one reason or another. Better hurry or your spot will be taken by some other pic. Only 7 pics left! I'd like to see a highlander picture!

I can see it now! I apologize, it wasn't there earlier.
