It was between #2 and #3, but I had to go with the image of Marty because the fellow in #3 looked like he enlisted after being released from an insane asylum.
By the way Marty, my respects and best wishes for a safe return go out to your brother .

Re: Vote For the February Cover

One would think that No. 3 would have been the obvious winner for this month's cover shot. The gentleman's eyes are, without a doubt, piercing and haunting. Which in itself, is just very cool. Emulsions, lighting, and the right pose can really create that effect.

However, I simply had to go with Marty's photograph. I love his impression, bugle, the Brady-esque stance (see attachment), and above all else: his look. His whimsical, hopeful stare wins me over. Perhaps I get that feeling of "longing to return home", an all to common dream for our ACW soldiers.

And I also think he's just a great guy. Mr. Rubin's background story is genuine and I sympathize with his and his brother's cause. If any of you have done business with him, you know how much he really deserves to win this contest.

Number two (2), hands down...a very genuine and comforting image.

I had to vote for # 3. I feel like if I don't he will hunt me down, with that "look."

What is the story behind number three?

I haven't voted here in a while, but had to take a few seconds to join the democratic process.

My vote is for #3, Joe's bug eyes and crazy shirt did it for me.

I miss Joe alot and wish he's come back for one last hurrah with the boys...maybe for the 150th.

Come on AC! Vote for #3 and let's bring Joe back into the hobby!

#3 definitely gets my vote. The picture has that right old-time look to it and he has that "I jist jined up and am rarin' to go" look.

#2 gets my vote. The look of the image is fantastic. Also the gentelman in the image looks a lot like my uncle. Weird! Godspeed to your brother sir.

Re: Vote For the February Cover

I look for extant examples. I personally have never seen a Reb in full field gear holding a bugle or bundled up for a cold weather fight. Are the first two based on original images or are they simply contrived reenacting fashion plates?

I’m a fan of plain and simple. Less is more. A table or a chair, no hat and well combed hair have a better period feel to me than posing with a well displayed Gardner canteen or other props. http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...highlight=sack With that being said, I'm more comfortable with the well armed fellow in the third image.

As far as the overall content is concerned all three are well executed. The age and fitness in all three is commendable and there is no rank visible. I must admit that I’m tired of the same style carpet used over and over again regardless of the time line or setting.

                                #2!!!!!!!
This man has the best impression out of all of the images. Hair, Beard, Clothing, Posture, Look, it's all there, and so obvious to me. The exposure of the plate, EVERYTHING lines up for one killer image!

As a side note, I don't much care for the hat in image three, and feel it would have made for a better image with a nice pomp.
