  • New Approved Vendor: Love & Wienges (Rose & Sexton)

    Love & Wienges
    Est. Charleston 1851
The Charleston firm of Love and Wienges (pronounced win-geez) was established on the corner of Broad and Church Streets in 1851. A unique partnership between an Irishman and a German immigrant, Love & Wienges quickly grew to be one of Charleston’s premier saddlery and harness shops. Like many other Charleston companies, Love and Wienges began producing leather articles for the State of SC early in 1861. The SC Department of Archives and History in Columbia, SC, holds many of the early state orders for goods detailed on Love & Wienges letterhead. The firm employed several slaves that resided on the premises adjacent to their retail location. Through review of available documentation, it is clear that the firm was one of the larger state contractors for goods from early 1861 to late 1862

Currently, Love & Wienges is a partnership between Brad Malone and Neill Rose, two Living Historians dedicated to the study of CS material culture. We seek to offer the AC’s membership quality and unique, ready-made goods. We will not seek or take custom orders typically but inquires are welcome. It is our collective experience that the artisan produces a better product when allowed to fulfill their interests first, thus providing a product that is crafted rather than mass manufactured. We will not maintain a website but will post ready made goods for sale from time to time. Typically, we’ll be offering CS belts, sword belts, canteen slings, painted canvas goods along with a consignment line of clothing (new and used) from Neal Sexton. We look forward to providing a quality product with excellent service and documentation.

Re: New Approved Vendor: Love & Wienges (Rose & Sexton)

    Folks,

Many thanks for posting our introduction Paul. The AC is truly blessed with some excellent artisans and we sincerely hope to fill a need ourselves. I'll be compiling our first list of ready made goods over the weekend but as an introduction, they'll include:

Several new and used Neal Sexton CS jackets
    Some used US goods
    CS and English shirts
Several CS belts including one unique "Ranger" belt out of true J&E Sedgewick leather
Several original items including Lorenz bayonet and original scabbard
    etc., etc.

Of course we'll have the pics to match. Look forward to hearing from folks soon!

    Cheers,

    Neill Rose

Neill and Brad are some of the top leather makers in the hobby, and are the second company on my 2 company list of people I purchase leather items from.
