  • Christmas Thread

Before one of the crashes, we used to have a pretty decent collection of Christmas Traditions, excerpts from magazines, decorating ideas, info. on traditional meals, and songs.

A simple search on "Christmas" yielding over 300 threads, of which most contained none of this information...a few threads discussed Songs/Hymns...but that seemed to be about the extent.

With less than two months to Christmas (and less than that for most of us who will be participating in holiday programs)...perhaps we could revive a single thread with these theme?

On our website, www.raggedsoldier.com, in the archived section of Virginia's Veranda, are two Christmas articles which may help. The titles are, "The Joys of Christmas: A Look at Christmas Customs and Traditions" and Two Christmas Poems." Other than that, I've done a great many posts on individual topics such as Christmas trees, decorations, ornaments, dinner menus, presents, and other traditions that I have not included in articles but you might want to be specific in your questions. Then I could cut and paste some of my previous post but I don't want to send something that is is already there.

Keep in mind when using http://www.victoriana.com/ that they cover a wide time frame and an overwhelming number of items come from post-1865. Just pay attention to the dates but there are some truly great things on here pre-war, wartime, and post-war. One of the most fascinating items however is the "Wonderful Toy Shop" booklet from 1852.
