  • Winter Weekend Ball/Dinner, March 20th and 21st/28th and 29th, 2009

The Living History Society of Minnesota is pleased to announce our annual Celebration of Winter for 2009.

The events are spread out over two weekends. March 20th and 21st will feature a dance workshop and formal ball, with period music in a candlelit ballroom. March 28th and 29th will feature a formal dinner (not for the faint of heart - there will be multiple courses in grand style) and a period social with (weather permitting) coasting and skating. March is the snowiest month of the year in Minnesota, so we may just luck out!

Registration will be opening soon. Preregistration is required as space is limited, and tickets do tend to sell out. The majority of the activities are in one location in Saint Paul, very accessible from the airport, train station, and multiple fine hotels. If you need help finding accomodation, we are more than happy to assist!

For more information, please continue to check the website at http://www.lhsmn.org. For inquiries, email winterweekend@lhsmn.org

    Betsy -

Apparently, as I was clued-in regarding our period Ball later this month, having lit candles at a public venue filled with people is not ok with typical local fire code!

To avoid a possible "moment" with a fire marshall you might want to be pro-active and determine for certain if the code and the venue's insurance allow you to have lit candles at the event.

We may go to electric candlesticks to try and keep the ambiance... no worse, I suppose, than the house lights which are also electric.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure what the local firecode is - this event has been going on for a lot longer than I've been a reenactor. I assume that those with more experience have checked this out, but well, we know what happens when one assumes...

It is in a Masonic Lodge, and I know they use candles there for their ceremonies. I will see that someone checks into this. There are also overhead chandelier-type "gaslights" that are dimmed, so we don't rely on candles, but they are nice for the ambiance.

Registration is now open for this event. Forms are available at http://www.lhsmn.org/events/ww2009.html

This is a very fun event, and both weekends look to be very enjoyable for all. Comfortable and reasonable accommodations are available nearby, and the main site for the events is close to the Amtrak station and the Minneapolis Saint Paul Airport for those traveling.

We hope you can join us!
