  • one button sack coats

I recently purchased a very nice one button sack coat entirely hand sewn and I am curious if they are documented and were used during the civil war period. I have always seen 3 or more button sack coats.

    Re: one button sack coats

Can you provide an image or more details on your coat: fabric, lined or unlined, location of the single button, any features of the cut and/or construction?

I have an original linen sack coat, single layer of fabric including the collar and lapels, patch pockets, with a single button at the chest. It may have been a ready-made garment. This is an informal garment, intended for wear in casual, recreational settings, e.g. at a springs or watering place, walking, boating, lawn parties, etc.

I've not personally observed any other single button sack coats.
