I thought I would pass this on as it seems to contribute to our want of mid-19th century civilian material culture. While it is not the US, it does provide a unique glimpse into 1850's village life in Great Britain and in stereo.
I had a opportunity to see the book last week thanks to a friend who taught Brian May the wet-plate collodion photography process in London two weeks ago (it's due for release in the US in early 2010). The book comes with a stereo viewer to allow the reader to view the original stereo images as they we're intended.
