  • hopsack fabric

I am trying to search for an alternative fabric to linen used in mens civilian summer garments, mainly cottons. I am interested in domestic and lower-end wares that a poor southern farmer might own. I know of drills, duck, and jean, but I was wondering if anyone knows of, or can point me to the use of hopsack fabric in garments. I'm trying to gauge the variety of non-linen fabrics and weaves used in civilian outer garments, and am unfamiliar with civilian research sources other than fashion books and drafting manuals.
    Thanks a lot...

Corduroy was used for many work clothes during the 19th century. That would fall under the cotton fabric umbrella.
