  • wool batting: how thick?

My slab of wool batting just arrived for my civilian vest padding, and I'm puzzled how to employ it. The batting is 72" by 90" in size and as fine as a frog hair. I presume it should be doubled (tripled?) and then sewn cross-ways like a quilt. At least this is what I have been reading. The cotton batting I purchased earlier incorrectly is a good deal thicker than the wool.

The wool batting that I use is doubled over for a 1/4 to 1/2" thickness. Sandwhiched in between a sheet of light buckram or linen, next, laying your lining on top and quilting this together. I have seen quilting patterns run amuck in many patterns ranging from simple horizontal lines 1/2" to 2" spacing, to vaious patterns of triangular shapes and circular shapes.

    Hope this may help too

I may have missed this in an earlier discussion, but where is a source for wool batting?
      Thanks!

Wool n Stuff (www.woolnstuff.com). $16 for a large hunk of it. Just use the "search" feature on their site.
