  • Friends of Freedom Tour, Mt. Pleasant, OH Aug. 6-7

Short notice, I know, but I just found out. Mt. Pleasant was a prominent Underground Railroad stop and haven for many who freed themselves so and is now a National Historic Landmark District. Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 1-5, tickets $10 adults/$5 12-5, under 5 free. Tour sites include:
Yearly Meeting House (Ohio Historical Society site, open this weekend)--includes quilt show, earliest examples from 1851; this was the site of the Hicksite fight when the Yearly Meeting split.
Harris-Bone Store Log Cabin (built 1803) and living quarters (1836)
    Historical Center (1856)
    Tin Shop (1840)
Burriss Store and Gift Shop (1895)
John Gill House/Elizabeth House Mansion (1835)
    and three privately owned homes:
    Maxwell House (1870)
    Benjamin Stanton House (1830-40)
Jonathan Updegraff House (1856) Updegraff was a Quaker abolitionist, Civil War surgeon, then congressman and senator.

If anyone is near enough to want to see this but uncertain of directions, the site's number is 800-752-2631.
