I hope someone can help me out. My girlfriend is looking for a place to get shoe laces for a pair of ladies side lace shoes. What would be appropriate for that type of shoe, ribbon or lace? The search function didn’t turn up with the results I was looking for.

No one has answered you yet, so I'll give you a recommendation that may work until an "expert" decides to chime in.
Most of the ones I've seen have had round woven, cotton laces... sometimes with a light wax coating. I've seen an off-white/ecru sort of color with white shoes and black (or once black) with other colors. One can usually find such at a "nicer" shoe store and some department stores. The length is usually judged by the number of eyelet pairs. For "modern" laces, you'll want to lace the shoes and then clip off the plastic tips.
