  • Surveyor?

Just thought I would share this image with y'all. I find it fascinating for a variety of reasons...Any thoughts on his profession? I am think surveyor but not knowing anything about surveying or the tools required for it, I don't know for sure. Any opinions?

As a horseman, I am particularly drawn to the saddle valise on the table. I wish I could get a better look at it but sadly I am computer challenged. Image is from the late 1850's if the only info I have on it is correct which I find no reason to doubt.

    Re: Surveyor?

Sounds like as good a guess as any, Paddy.

The eyepiece in his lap and what looks like some type of tool or utensil belt on the table??? Seems to me he would place front and foremost the main tools of the trade. Not sure what that is on his left hip. Hope others can shed light as it is a neat photo.

Good shot of his cravat, too.

    thanks for posting,

The covered head appears to share the dimensions of a surveyors cross.
