This is advance notice of an event that will take place in southeastern Missouri next April. Marmaduke's Raid will be a total-immersion, "no modern objects, no modern talk" reenactment of the Raid that took place near Patterson, Missouri, in 1863. The event will take place on private and public land, in a steep, beautiful little valley near a lake. There will be no amenities of any kind (not even portapotties) and participants will probably have to be in good shape to negotiate the rocky hillsides. This is an opportunity to experience history as it was really lived, in a beautiful secluded wooded area.
We're looking for about twelve men, women, and children who are up for a physical challenge. For those of you who remember the first "Marmy's," you know that there will be a wide variety of people traversing those hillsides -- deserters, bushwhackers, refugees, military of both sides, State Guard, Enrolled Militia, cavalry, Mossbacks (men hiding from enforced enrollment) and travelers of all kinds.
If you're interested, please join the new google list (yes, ahem, I know it's misspelled ) and follow the discussions on the facebook group.
An event web site is being constructed and will be posted as soon as it goes live.
