  • Independence Village Fall Event, 2012

Hello everyone. Registration for the Independence Village Fall event is now open to all. Registration is $30 per person, and free to anyone age 14 or under.

At this time we have a few regulars already registered, but there is still plenty of room for new folks. The event theme is wartime Illinois, September 1862.

    Here's the basic info: https://sites.google.com/site/starof...upcomingevents

The big questions confronting Illinoisans at this time include recruitment for several new regiments; news about the constitutional convention taking place in Springfield; the Congressional mid-term elections, particularly the House of Representatives, and of course the horrific news of Antietam, just starting to trickle back to rural villages.

More specific event activities are now in the planning stages, including a harvest festival, corn shucking and the like. If you're interested, please go to the google list and ask to be added; we'll take it from there.

As previously mentioned in other posts, Independence Village is a very pretty "constructed" village, composed of authentic antebellum log houses and shops. Our events are essentially daily life immersion events.

Well worth your time if you can make it. If not, keep an eye out for 2013.

This is a GREAT chance for people to truely feel the feeling of living in "the time" in houses not tents. We come together to make the villege come back to life. plus we are never asked if we are hot in those CLOTHES!

Re: Independence Village Fall Event, 2012

Independence Village has proved a breath of fresh air for me, pushing my development and research in living history. We truly come together as a village family, interacting through the weekend and creating a successful civilian immersion scenario. My first event was last May, and I was blown away by the welcome I received, and how well people worked together to make things work, no matter how things arose to challenge the event (including a pair of dogs that consumed the afternoon meal.) I can't speak highly enough about the event, and were it not for an injury, I would be in attendance this weekend. If anyone is remotely interested in attending an event of this nature, with the best civilian living historians I've met, in a friendly and active environment, Independence Village must be on your list.
