  • Need Pattern for Haversack

Thanks to everyone in helping with my material question does anyone have a pattern for a civilian bag or haversack? Thanks again.

    Re: Need Pattern for Haversack

Much will depend on exactly what sort of civilian acceptable bag you hope to make.

Simple haversack... decide how wide and long you'd like the finished bag... say 12" square... so the piece you cut should be 13" wide (12" bag + 1/2" seam allowance to either side) by 12" front + 12" back + 6" flap+ 2" hem= 32"
hem the top edge... bring the top edge up 12" matching "wrong" sides together... run & fell the side seams... hem the edges of the flap... add a button and buttonhole if desired. Measure length of shoulder strap + 1" for hem by 5"... fold in half length-wise, wrong sides together and stitch... turn right side out and turn hem to inside and topstitch closed... stitch to bag securely.

Thank you, what about double stiching at the joints?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking... which "joints"?
A "run and fell" seam is double stitching... like the stitching on fine shirts or boxers. The section where the flap meets the body might benefit from some reinforcement... like a patch.
