  • Independence Events, 2013

We have confirmed the dates for Independence Village, 2013.

Both events will run from Friday through Monday for those who want a longer immersion experience. Of course we can also accommodate people who can't make the entire four-day event.

Memorial Day weekend, Friday May 24 through Monday May 27.

Columbus Day weekend, Friday October 11 through Monday October 14.

We are still following the war years (so this will be 1863) and these events are essentially daily life with some excitement thrown in. Our events are also total immersion: no modern talk, no modern objects. We have lots of wonderful regulars who are happy to mentor newbies, or even seasoned veterans who may be new to the "daily life immersion" scene. Don't let issues with gear or experience stop you--we can help out with loaners or advice.

This is a fantastic experience. The village is a pretty pioneer hamlet composed of antebellum log houses and shops, located in eastern Illinois, about an hour south of Champaign and pretty close to the Indiana border.

For more information, you can read posts on the earlier Indy events, check out our web site, and join the google discussion list. Here are the links:

Let me know if you have any questions.

By the way, we still have a little room for the event next week. Drop us a line if you suddenly find your weekend free!

    Re: Independence Events, 2013

As I've said in the other thread going for next week's event, Independence Village is an outstanding opportunity to attend an event that lends itself to a greater understanding of life in the Midwest during the war years. I can't recommend the event enough, and the May event is already on my calendar for next year. I would especially suggest the event for men in the hobby to develop their civilian impressions and to learn more about home life during the war, something we all need to work on. Please consider attending the event in May.
