Sometime next Spring (the dates have not been finalized), there will be a multi-museum school day where all the 5th graders in the City of Little Rock will go on a tour of several historical museums and sites all in relation to the topic of the American Civil War. My museum, the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, is housed inside the "tower building" of the old 1840 U.S. arsenal. This arsenal, as others across the South, were surrendered to State controll in the early months of Secession. Because no battles took place on the ground of this arsenal, I am wanting to showcase to kids that there were many sides and stories to tell within the Civil War, not just battles. I would like to have several high quality, authentic ladies here to spend the day rolling cartirdges and engaging with the kids about how women were employed during the war, both North and South, to help the war effort.
If you would be interested in doing this, and have some quality, authentic ladies who would want to come with you, please contact me at; nclark@littlerock.org, or by phone at (501) 376-4602. I am in the office M - F, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Thanks,
