The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, housed inside the old "tower building" of the 1840 U.S. arsenal in Little Rock, will take part in a multi-site school day program in the spring where all the City of Little Rock 5th graders will visit several museums and sites and learn about the Civil War. Because this was a working arsenal from 1840 - Reconstruction, I want to show these kids that this was a working military complex, not just a static building where munitions were stored. One of the shops here on the grounds of the arsenal was where weapons would be fixed and repaired. I am in search of a period correct gunsmith who could come here to the grounds of the old 1840 U.S. arsenal and do an interpretive talk and demonstrations for school kids on the trade of a gunsmith, either as a civilian employed by the U.S. military, or as a soldier in the pre-war U.S. Regular army / artillery.
If you, or someone that you know, would be interested in taking part in this school day program (there should be roughly 2,000 kids visiting the site in one day), please contact me at the museum at; nclark@littlerock.org , or by phone at (501) 376-4602. I am in the office M - F, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Thank you,
