  • Need ideas for barber impression

I have the task of lining up special reenactors for our club. A friend is a barber in real life. I would like to suggest to him that he do a C.W. impression of barbering. I have no idea what that would look like. When I present the idea to him I would like to suggest some ideas. Such as:What would be more authentic-civilian or military? I assume straight razors were used, but what about scissors or hand clippers? Any help would be appreciated.

Why do "period dental tools" evoke an image of the Spanish Inquisition in my mind?

I did a web search and found a little info here http://thehistoryofthehairsworld.com...s_history.html

The illustration is from the March 9 1861 issue of The Illustrated London News, and is depicting a barber shop in Richmond.

As a licensed barber, he should also research whether he can just portray a barber in the state where he is currently licensed, or if he can do so when your unit travels to another state. Some states are pretty rigid about this, others not so much.

Some states are so rigid in licensing that a practicing barber can only work at the actual address stated on the license.

It's easier for someone who isn't a barber or beautician to do this impression than for a licensed professional to do this and not violate the terms of their license.

For example, I've cut hair at an event in another state. As I'm not a licensed professional, I can do so, as long as I don't take modern pay. A crumpled confederate bill or sutler token is allowable.
