I am searching for either ready-made or a maker of 19th century curtains to provide us with some for my historic site. The house was built in 1860 and we are in the process of working on some rooms and have curtains that have been there since before I cam here in 1998 that have deteriorated from sun damage and need to be replaced. If anyone can give me some sources I would much appreciate it.

Re: Looking for 19th Century Curtains
I'd check out and talk to Family Heirloom Weavers: http://www.familyheirloomweavers.com...g_windows.html
Maybe some of the patterns they have on their site might work for ya? Yes, they are cotton and acrylic. Suppose they may do a special run if enough yardage is needed. Dunno.
I'm guessing the originals may have been made of silk? That takes a beating in windows.
Best of luck!Matt Mickletz

Re: Looking for 19th Century Curtains
Not always silk. I did check with FHW and Thistle Hill Weavers and anyone else I could think of but they didn't have the right stuff. We have some FHW items in some windows in the back ell of the mansion but the front rooms need something a tad fancier.Michael Comer

Re: Looking for 19th Century Curtains
You might talk to Val at Discount Fabrics USA. They specialize in home decorator fabrics on the cheap and have sources to mills that will do special reproductions. Nice folks to work with. Don't be afraid to order swatches from their samples department. Ask many questions, they are accustomed to working with folks who aren't sure what they are looking for... as well as designers who want very specific things.
The damasks like "Dehors de Jove" are amazing in person... and some have been used in the White House, Capitol Hill, and other historic buildings in Washington City.-Elaine "Ivy Wolf" Kessinger
