Thanks to all the folks who attended this past weekend and who made the event such a success. I hope others will chime in with their favorite highlights!
I wanted to post information about upcoming events, since we decided to make a few changes to the way we schedule our village weekends.
We have reserved this coming Columbus Day Weekend (Friday, Oct. 11 through Monday, Oct. 14, 2013) for our group, but instead of the usual big village scene, we will hold a smaller semi-private event. Don't be scared! Private doesn't mean exclusive. Everyone is still welcome. It just means that we are going to work on one or two log structures doing repairs or construction, or else do some farm work, and will therefore not have to charge a registration fee. The event will still be in the usual immersion mode. Those who are interested in working on antebellum log houses, farm work, or preservation, this will be the very event for you!
Next year we will hold several similar smaller events in the spring and summer, which will be coordinated and announced at least a few months in advance. In addition we will have a major election day scenario (most likely) during the Columbus Day weekend: Friday, Oct. 10 through Monday, Oct. 13, 2014. We'll have speeches, festivals, picnics, etc., to give candidates for local, state, and national offices a chance to make their case for election. Copperheads and Wide-Awakes, this is your chance to make yourselves heard!
Anyone interested in the smaller or bigger Independence village events should contact me, or else join the facebook page:
